I have lived in Sequim, Washington with my husband, John, since 1994. We live on a dirt road, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We have deer in our yard every day and enjoy the solitude, where most of the noise comes from birds. This beautiful corner of the northwest gives me inspiration for my artworks. I am a mixed media artist, which means I take many different materials and techniques and combine them in one piece of art.
I like recycling materials in unusual ways. You might find old computer parts, feathers, jewelry, chopsticks, clock parts or any variety of objects my art pieces. Some of my work is on a flat surface, some is three dimensional. I like to work spontaneously, not planning too far ahead, as I like the materials and colors to surprise the viewer. I might have an idea of the direction I want to go, but I like to be open to where the ideas might lead me. I have worked in many mediums through the years, including pottery, jewelry (metal and glass), mask making, and photography. I love the challenge of creating one-of-a-kind collage pieces using many different techniques, textures, colors, tools, materials and methods. One reason I love collage so much is that I can use all the techniques and methods I have learned in the past to help me express myself in my current work. It is always challenging, exciting and fun.I also love photography. I take my camera with me everywhere I go, and my husband is used to me yelling “Stop the car and let me out!”, when I see an image I feel have to capture.My art is unique; it makes me happy and I hope others will connect with me in some way when they see it.Since 2005, I have had numerous pieces accepted in over 14 juried shows, winning several awards for my art and photography. Most recently, in September, 2010 at the Clallam County Fair, I won Best Abstract, and received Honorable Mentions for two other works. I am currently also the Historian/Photographer for Sequim Arts.
