GENERAL MEETINGS:

Sequim Arts general meetings are held at St.Luke’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 525 N.Fifth Avenue, Sequim. Meetings begin with coffee and goodies at 9:30 AM, a short business at 10:00 AM, followed by a program presented by local or visiting artists.

January Meeting

Cynthia Thomas will be our presenter for the January meeting. She will do an interactive presentation to get us all off our tuschies and do ART.

Cynthia has studied colour theory and composition, and different media: drawing with pencil, pastels, charcoal; painting in oils and acrylics; printmaking, wood cuts; and sculpture, pottery and jewelry. She earned a BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts and an MA from San Jose State University, both degrees in Metal Arts and Jewelry Design.

December Meeting

Starts with coffee time is 9:30 am, 10:00 am Meeting, followed by a talk by Mary Marsh, our Sequim Arts Historian.Then our  Annual Potluck, Christmas Holiday Luncheon.

October Demo Artist was Anita Wheeler

Anita is a member of the Quileute Nation.  She has many talents which include Cedar Bark Weaving.  She will  bring the woven cedar basket called “Basket woman” and talk about weaving. She will  also bring examples of her coastal designs and discuss how it was explained by her grandfather and will share stories passed down through generations.

to record the beauty in

abundance here.”

While demoing, Ole talked about how he learned to carve objects from professional wood carvers in the Pacific Northwest.

June Meeting Demo by Peninsula Driftwood Artist

Charlie Johnson, Mildred Tain and Sharon Curnett will be demonstrating the Worlund method of making and teaching driftwood art.

A pot luck will be held along with an art book and supply sale with proceeds going to support the Youth Arts Program.

May Meeting Demo Guest was Diane Gale, Potter

Diane has been making pottery for over 20 years, balancing supporting herself with her passion for ceramics.  Her work creates a coming together of material from the earth kneaded into form, glazed in earth’s minerals and born from fire to be nature reformed.

April Demo for General Meeting was Kim Anderson

Sequim Arts April 23rd meeting will feature well known Northwest Artist Kim Anderson.  Kim is a graduate of The Burnley School of Art, Seattle WA and a signature member of the National Collage Association.  She has won numerous awards in juried shows with her works in three dimensional art.  A current passion is creating art in assemblage boxes inspired by her attraction to recycled/found objects and the enjoyment in the contrast of mixed textures.  Kim’s art is meant to tell a story or convey a message or feeling, share a moment or a dream with a viewer, a desire for a connection; a viewers smile, laugh or nod, perhaps thinking…”I’ve had that feeling”.  Kim’s presentation follows gathering time at 9:30 am and general meeting at 10:00 am.  Visitors are cordially welcomed.

March demo for the General Meeting was Susan Spar

For the past two years, Susan has been selling small florals and nudes successfully on eBay and through the Daily Painters Website. On March 19th, Susan will demonstrate her technique for creating one of her “daily” paintings, taking us through her set up process, a fast tonal under painting to the finished piece – all in about one hour. So hold on to your seats.

February 26 demo for the general meeting was “Driftwood: Finding to Finishing” with Peninsula Driftwood Artist.

The Demo for the General Meeting for January 22 was “Cold Connections can be Hot” by Coffee and Pat Miklos.

A hands on presentation of jewelry techniques that do not require torch work. We hope to incorporate such techniques as rivets, tube rivets, piercing, drilling, hammering, texturing, folding and bending

Coffee Miklos and his wife Pat discovered the beauty of the Pacific Northwest on a vacation in 2002. They moved to Dungeness (a tiny village just outside of Sequim, Washington) in 2005 and together formed “Dungeness Studios”.

RevealBarbara DePirro presented the demonstration for the September meeting. Her presentation was entitled “Through My Eyes”

“Inspiration comes to us in so many ways; whether traveling to exotic lands, strolling down country roads,walking through urban settings or just sitting still and simply opening our eyes. We are surrounded by an endless flow of ideas. Having the ability to find inspiration in the simplest of forms, the familiar, and the everyday is a tremendous gift.
