Classes with Susan Spar

In addition to workshops, Susan teaches two regularly held classes. Both classes cover both drawing and painting. All classes are held in Susan’s studio where there is a warm and inviting environment for study.

Cherry PitcherWednesday Atelier Class: This class is an intensive program based on the Master/Apprentice relationship. Students are taught to work from life, drawing from the model in the morning and various still life set ups in the afternoon. The work focuses on learning foundation skills in order for the student to build a collection of “tools” for attaining their individual artistic goals. Students start with drawing in graphite and charcoal working eventually to oils. The class is held to eight students to allow for individual help and instruction. Classes include frequent demonstrations as well as projector and video presentations to augment learning.

Cost: $180 for six week sessions plus there is a $10 model fee for each day the model is present.

Day: Wednesday

Times: Morning session 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Afternoon session 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM
Half day students are not accepted.

Friday Drawing and Panting: The Friday afternoon class is a general painting and drawing class. Each student is taken at their individual level and a course of study outlined for the individual. This class covers many of the same areas as the Wednesday class, i.e, drawing, painting (oils or pastels), composition and color. However, figure drawing is not included and the curriculum is less intensive.

Cost: An initial commitment of $120 for six classes is required. One absence/make-up
is granted during this period. Once the six week commitment is met, the student
will be switched to $20 per class payable each week.

Day: Friday

Time: 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM

I provide a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere where students can relax and paint. For most of my classes, I offer students the option of “painting with MY supplies” before buying your own. That way, you can decide if you like watercolor BEFORE you buy your own brushes, paints, etc. Or if you’re visiting and left your supplies at home, for a small fee you can use mine.

For a small fee per class ($2) you may use my supplies (paper, paint, brushes, tape, etc)
