Demonstration
I will be demonstrating the sculpture process in Classic Clay (which is sculptor’s oil base clay) on a new sculpture. I will have the Photographs (maybe a power point slide show) of the steps from the clay to the finished bronze ready for presentation; I will also have examples at various stages of the process.
Artist Statement
My sculptures reflect the spiritual, emotional and physical connection of humans and nature through metamorphic imagery. I depict it both realistically and abstractly. I am inspired by the world mythologies and the connection we have to Earth. It is important to captivate the viewer’s mind’s eye with imagery that awakens your interest and shares with you the wonders of the Earth, and our connection to the Earth.
I have been enthralled in the pastels and the mixed media using the circle, representing the wholeness, which brings me back to the Earth and her spherical form and our connection to the Earth.
I have always had a passion for colour. The different energies generated by the vibrance, hue and value have always fascinated me. Over the years of working in metal I felt colour starved at times. I would pick up my painting or collage or pastels to feed that hunger; the rich diversity of colour, in these other mediums, filled this craving in my soul.
There is a magic in the flow of a brush across the canvas, the sweep of supple pastel across the luscious paper, leaving trails of colour where imagery explodes and the soul breathes, vital, alive, begging for the next stroke.
The imagery, in the pastels, mixed media, paintings and sculptures, is the dream of the mind’s eye, the visual dessert that feeds the soul. We each experience what we see through our “self”. The circle of wholeness is the format and containment that I work within. The great mythologies of the world, the red root colour, the solar gold, the blues of voice, to name a few, all come and go in the drawings, paintings and sculptures, revealing the journey within the media.
So, Feast your eyes and spirits, and breathe. Enjoy.
