Artist Statement

Charlotte Watts is a professional fine art photographer and retired Emergency Physician who has lived on the Olympic Peninsula for 20 years. She trained with Ansel Adams as well as several other well-known photographers. Her work has been shown in many galleries on the Peninsula, in Seattle, and nation-wide. This year she expanded her business Progress of Light Studios, to provide printing/photographic services for artists and photographers, as well as the general public. She is available to teach Photoshop techniques to those wanting a 1:1 hands-on experience. This fall she will rejoin the teaching staff of the Ansel Adams Gallery of Photography in Yosemite. Her work may be viewed on her web site or at her studio.

Charlotte believes that the camera does not stop the moment–the image is recorded by humans as a “brain-print” and recurs again and again as déjà vu, or music, or dreams; thus her images almost always contain some motion–a motion that sets the eye and brain going in a continuation of the perceived. Her recent work, although printed in color, is much more similar to the Tonalism Movement (muted color harmonies) at the turn of the 20th century.
