Artist Statement
I have always loved color and form and knew when I retired and had that precious commodity of time, my creative energy would lead me in an exciting direction. When I moved to Sequim from Colorado, I took a class in fused glass and was immediately hooked.
I am fascinated by the whole process of fusing glass. Opening the kiln after the glass has been fired reveals a treasure. The glass has transitioned from a raw edged, cold feeling piece to something soft, sensuous and vibrantly colored.
Currently, I am happily exploring the many possibilities fused glass offers.
My goal in designing “functional” glass pieces is to create useable items that are contemporary, harmonious and balanced. As an avid collector of masks from different countries, it was a natural transition for me to create masks out of glass. Vividly colored and whimsical, the masks are eye catching additions to a room. My wall art consists of intricately patterned glass mounted on different metals. The reflections of the glass and metal combine to create a piece that is colorful and striking. Creatively, I find each glass piece a new and stimulating adventure.
